Choosing the right bat size is one of the quickest ways to improve timing, control, and confidence at the plate. At Underground Bats, we use a simple sizing method that works for fastpitch and baseball and can be done at home in under a minute.
Here’s our step-by-step “T-Stand” method.
Step 1: Stand in a “T”
Stand up tall with your feet together.
Hold your arms straight out to the sides like a “T” (palms facing forward is fine).
Keep arms level — not drooping.
Step 2: Find Your Starting Point
Locate the center of your chest — your sternum (middle of the chest).
Step 3: Measure to Your Finger Knuckle
Measure from your sternum to the last knuckle on your longest finger (usually your middle finger).
That measurement (in inches) is your recommended bat length starting point.
Example:
If the measurement is 31 inches, start testing 31” bats (and you may also compare a 30” or 32” depending on strength and feel).
Step 4: Fine-Tune the Feel
Once you have your length starting point, choose the bat that feels best based on swing speed and control:
If the bat feels heavy or you’re late → consider a lighter drop or more balanced model
If the bat feels too light and contact is weak → consider a slightly heavier feel (only if your swing stays fast)
